Recently the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), decided to expand their community outreach decided to integrate a broader culture in their programming. To help the MFA reach their goal we created Juneteenth Takeover at the Museum of Fine Arts. This program provides a bridge for diverse communities to come together. Celebrating the blackest holiday at a traditionally white institution provides a bridge for diverse people to come together with a sense of belonging. The event spotlights several local black artists ranging from fashion designers to graffiti artists. The Juneteenth Takeover, includes 95 community partners, 10 artists and attracts close to 5000 people to the museum annually. This program has also helped the museum build long term relationships with diverse artists leading to 20 artists being integrated into other events throughout the year. Entering its 5th year, the Juneteenth Takeover at the MFA is the highest attended community event the MFA sponsors.
